Millet

Astarta-Agrotrading 1Russia’s share in world millet production

Russia ranks 13th in global millet production, with a share of approximately 1% of the total. In 2022, the country’s millet production was around 307.87 thousand tonnes. This indicates that although Russia’s share in the global context is small, the country is actively involved in the production of this important grain crop. Millet, as one of the oldest crops, has a wide range of uses, including use in the food industry and animal feeding. In recent years, millet has attracted attention as a potential alternative to traditional grain crops, especially in the face of climate change. In this regard, Russian farmers and experts emphasize the need to increase the area under millet to increase its production and improve food security.

The role of millet in agriculture of the Saratov region

The Saratov region is one of the leading regions of Russia in millet production. According to data for 2023, the share of the Saratov region in total millet production in Russia is more than 15%. Together with other regions, such as the Orenburg, Rostov, Samara and Volgograd regions, the Saratov region produces more than 60% of the country’s total millet harvest, which emphasizes its importance in the agricultural sector. Thus, the Saratov region plays a key role in ensuring millet production in Russia, which contributes both to the economic development of the region and to meeting the needs for this crop.
