Saratov Region Completes the 2026 Spring Sowing Campaign

В Саратовской области завершилась посевная кампания 2026 года
The Saratov Region has successfully completed its 2026 spring sowing campaign. Despite exceptionally difficult weather conditions, the total cultivated area reached 4.3 million hectares, maintaining the level achieved in the previous year. According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, this spring was marked by unusually high soil moisture and frequent rainfall, which significantly slowed field operations. Farmers carried out sowing whenever short periods of favorable weather allowed access to the fields. By the end of the campaign, 2.1 million hectares had been sown with grain and legume crops, including more than 1.1 million hectares of winter cereals. Technical crops occupy approximately 2 million hectares, with sunflower accounting for 1.7 million hectares. In addition, 14,000 hectares were planted with sugar beet, while vegetables, melons, and potatoes cover approximately 30,000 hectares across farms of all categories. Weather conditions also influenced the structure of the sowing campaign. Reduced planting of early spring cereals was offset by expanded acreage under late-season grain and industrial crops, allowing the region to maintain the planned total sown area. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the flexible adjustment of cropping plans and farming practices enabled the region to successfully complete the campaign and establish a solid foundation for the 2026 harvest.
