In 2026, the Saratov Region expects to harvest 5.1 million tons of grain and leguminous crops. This was announced by Igor Gridnev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Saratov Region, during a meeting of the Regional Duma Committee on Agrarian Affairs, Land Relations, Ecology and Environmental Management.
According to preliminary estimates, the region also expects to harvest around 2.1 million tons of sunflower, 354 thousand tons of vegetables and 130 thousand tons of potatoes.
Sown area remains at last year’s level
The total sown area of agricultural crops in the Saratov Region this year amounts to 4.3 million hectares. This figure corresponds to the previous year’s level and confirms the stability of the region’s agricultural sector.
The sowing of late crops is currently underway, including buckwheat, millet, maize, sunflower and soybean. The work is planned to be completed by June 22.
The region has sufficient storage capacity
According to Igor Gridnev, the total storage capacity for grain and oilseed crops in the Saratov Region, including storage facilities operated by agricultural producers, exceeds 7.3 million tons.
This infrastructure makes it possible to accommodate and store the 2026 harvest, which is essential for the stable operation of the agro-industrial sector and further logistics of agricultural products.
Saratov Region remains an important agricultural center
Last year, farmers in the Saratov Region harvested more than 5.5 million tons of grain and 2.3 million tons of sunflower. Current forecasts show that the region continues to hold strong positions among Russia’s major agricultural territories.
The preservation of large sown areas, developed storage infrastructure and stable production volumes create a solid basis for the further development of processing, domestic trade and export opportunities.
