Saratov region began sunflower harvesting

Саратовская область начала уборку подсолнечника

A harvesting campaign for sunflower, the main oilseed crop in the region, has started in the Saratov region. According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, farmers in 21 municipal districts have begun harvesting.

The total area under sunflower crops this year is 1 million 447 thousand hectares. To date, 29.5 thousand hectares have been harvested, which is about 2% of the total area. The gross harvest has already reached 37 thousand tons with an average yield of 12.5 centners per hectare. These figures exceed the results of the same period last year, which inspires optimism among local farmers.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Saratov Region - Minister of Agriculture Roman Kovalsky noted the high pace of the harvesting campaign: “The harvesting of sunflower, one of the key oilseed crops in the region, has just begun, but is already showing higher performance compared to last year. All agricultural enterprises in the region strictly follow the established schedules and plans, which allows us to confidently predict the successful completion of the harvesting campaign.”

The minister also emphasized the importance of this work for ensuring food security not only in the region, but also in the country as a whole: “The tasks set by the country’s leadership will be completed in full. We will continue to work for results in order to strengthen food security and ensure the stable development of the agricultural sector of our region.”

It is worth noting that sunflower is a strategically important crop for the Saratov region. The region is traditionally one of the leaders in sunflower production in Russia. Successful harvesting of this crop is of great importance not only for local producers, but also for the entire oil and fat industry of the country.

Experts note that favorable weather conditions and timely implementation of all necessary agrotechnical measures allow us to count on a good sunflower harvest this year. The final results of the harvesting campaign will be summed up after its completion, approximately in late October - early November.
