In total, during the spring field work in the Saratov region, 1,634.5 thousand hectares were sown, or 57.4% of the plan of 2,849 thousand hectares, reports Svetich news agency, citing the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture.

Grains and legumes (wheat, barley, oats, legumes, corn) were sown on 715.7 thousand hectares (69.8%), technical (sunflower, sugar beets, mustard, safflower, flax) - 875 thousand hectares (51%), spring fodder - 26.7 thousand hectares (35%).

Potatoes were planted on 8.3 thousand hectares, or 98.6%, vegetable crops - onions, carrots, beets - 8.184 hectares (53.1%), melons - 513 hectares (6.5%).

Fertilizing of winter crops was carried out on an area of ​​604.5 thousand hectares (130.5% of the plan of 463.4 thousand hectares).

Mineral fertilizers were applied to an area of ​​314.2 thousand hectares when sowing spring crops.

Work on planting gardens is being carried out in the Khvalynsky, Saratov, and Marksovsky districts. 45.5 hectares of fruit and berry plantings have been planted, of which 25.5 hectares are intensive gardens.

According to the deputy chairman of the regional government - Minister of Agriculture of the region Roman Kovalsky, the pace of the sowing campaign this year is ahead of last year.

“This year, weather conditions, frosts, and precipitation allowed farmers to begin spring field work a month later than planned. Field work tactics have been adjusted. But thanks to the use of energy-rich equipment and wide-cut units, it was possible not only to catch up with the pace, but also to increase it compared to the same period last year,” said the head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture.
